Website Care and Support in Hythe | ArloWebStudio

5 August 2026  ·  website care and support Hythe

A website isn't like a shop sign you put up once and forget about. Software changes, plugins go out of date, and things quietly break in the background even when nobody's touched anything. If you've ever emailed a web company after launch and heard nothing back, you'll know why website care and support actually matters more than the launch day itself.

I'm Jamie, and I build and look after websites for small businesses around Hythe and the rest of Kent. I don't disappear once your site goes live — I stick around, because that's when the real work of keeping a site healthy actually starts.

What "care and support" actually means

It's a phrase that gets thrown around a lot, so let me be specific about what it means when it's me doing it.

Keeping things updated

Website platforms release updates constantly — security patches, bug fixes, new versions of whatever your site's built on. Leave them too long and things stop working properly, or worse, become an easy target for anyone trying to hack into sites like yours. I keep an eye on this so you don't have to think about it.

Fixing things when they go wrong

Sometimes a form stops sending emails. Sometimes an image disappears, or a page loads oddly on someone's phone. These things happen even on well-built sites — the difference is whether you've got someone to call who already knows how your site is put together, or whether you're starting from scratch trying to explain your problem to a stranger.

Someone to actually ask

Want to change a price on your site, swap a photo, or add a new service page? With me, that's a message or a phone call, not a support ticket that vanishes into a queue. You're dealing with the same person who built the site in the first place.

Why build-and-vanish doesn't work

There's a common pattern with cheaper web design: you pay once, the site goes live, and then the company moves on to the next customer. Fair enough — that's how they make it affordable. But it leaves you on your own with something you probably don't fully understand technically, and no one to ask when it stops behaving.

I don't work that way. I see a website as an ongoing relationship rather than a one-off job. You've got a business to run in Hythe — you shouldn't also need to become a part-time website technician just to keep your site ticking over.

What ongoing support looks like day to day

In practice, this is fairly unglamorous stuff, but it's what keeps a site reliable:

  • Regular checks that the site is loading properly and nothing's broken
  • Security and software updates handled in the background
  • Small content changes — new opening hours, updated prices, a new photo
  • Backups kept so that if something does go badly wrong, we're not starting from zero
  • A direct line to me if something needs fixing or you've got a question

None of this is exciting. But it's the difference between a website that quietly works for years and one that slowly falls apart while you're too busy running your business to notice.

Local support, not a call centre

Being based in Hythe matters to me. If you're a business owner nearby, you're not sending a message into some anonymous support system — you're talking to someone who's just down the road and understands the kind of businesses that operate around here. I'd rather have a proper conversation with you about what you need than push you through a ticketing system with a reference number.

That's not a small thing when something's gone wrong and you're trying to explain it. Being able to say "it's doing this" to someone who already knows your site, rather than typing out a long support request to someone who's never seen it, saves everyone time and stress.

What good support should include

If you're looking around for website care and support in Hythe, or wondering whether your current setup is good enough, here's what I'd suggest checking for:

  • Is there a real person you can contact directly, or just a form?
  • Are updates and security handled proactively, or only when something breaks?
  • Do you know what happens if your site goes down — who fixes it, and how fast?
  • Are backups actually being taken, and could you get your site restored if needed?
  • Is ongoing support included, or an extra you'll be chased for later?

Honest answer: not every web designer offers proper ongoing support, and that's fine as long as you know that going in. What I'd say is don't assume it's included just because someone built you a nice-looking site — ask directly.

It's part of how I build sites in the first place

Care and support isn't something I bolt on as an afterthought — it shapes how I build sites from day one. If I know I'll be the one maintaining a site long-term, I build it in a way that's easier to keep updated and quicker to fix if something ever goes wrong. That's one advantage of working with someone who builds and looks after the site, rather than handing it off to be forgotten.

If your current website feels like it's been left to fend for itself, or you're getting a new one built and want to know someone will actually be there afterwards, I'm happy to have a straightforward chat about it. No jargon, no pressure — just an honest look at what your site needs. Get in touch through ArloWebStudio and let's talk about keeping your website properly looked after, not just built and left.
